It’s back!  That’s right, sweet powder skiing has returned after a brief hiatus.  With fresh snow every day since last Thursday and over the weekend— of the light, dry and delicious variety — we’re laying down sweet fast turns throughout the vast mountain playground that surrounds us, and it’s been getting better every day.  The Great Northern Mountain lived up to its name on Sunday, as we blazed trail through absolute hero snow, down the perfect fall line of many peoples’ favorite run!  Life is good up here — come join us!  We’ll be happy to show you around…

As with so much in life, a little reading between the lines is needed to get the real picture behind this week’s snowfall numbers.  Sure, it hasn’t snowed much in the past five days, but nice cool temperatures equal great snow preservation, our very well-settled snowpack is nice and stable, and the 808cm that have fallen so far this winter all add up to another week of sweet powder skiing.  Lots of space to roam means we’re still laying down untouched lines, who can argue with sunny days under bright blue skies!  The weatherman tells us fresh flakes are predicted for the first part of February, and then snow, snow, and more snow for as far as the forecast goes.  Sun is great, but snow’s even better, so that’s just music to our ears…

BIG SNOW!  It looks like the powder switch is stuck at 110%, and we’re not in any hurry to turn it off.  Hey, it’s nothing new up here, but we’re getting hammered by loads of fresh powder, with Tuesday’s storm bringing in snowfall of 20cm, and lots more still falling.  Our tracks are being erased by the day, and it’s not supposed to stop for the length of the foreseeable forecast.  To top it all off, temperatures are staying cool, keeping all that new snow in prime shape for skiing.  Pack your powder suit and your snorkel, because you’re going to need them!  Yeah, it’s a great time to be a Great Northern skier, but isn’t it always?!  Thirty seven years of powder hounds can’t be wrong --- when it’s time for DEEP, we’ve got you covered…

Santa Claus visited Great Northern and delivered over a meter of fresh snow between Christmas and New Year’s.  It was piling up as fast as we could measure it, just in time for our first guest’s arrival!!

Blue skies and sunshine have been the order of business over the past couple of days, with nice cold temperatures keeping the snow dry and well-preserved.

That pretty much sums it up around here --- deep lines and good friends to ski them with.  And if that’s not what life’s all about, it’s close enough for us…

Snow Density is around 95% air... textbook blower powder

SWEEEEET!  That's about the only way to describe the situation up here.  The numbers don't lie --- winter is happening big time!  We're in full swing building cat roads, and just barely shoveling fast enough to keep the lodge from disappearing under all the big fat flakes that keep on falling.  Yesterday's trip up the mountain revealed a two meter snowpack  (yup, that's a lot!) and it's just begging to be skied!  Yeah, pack your snorkels, 'cause it's looking DEEP and DRY and getting deeper, with the forecast saying nothing but snow, snow, and more snow all week long.  What else can I say?  Our arms may get tired from the shoveling, but our legs are strong and ready for some amazing powder skiing--- and who could ask for a better Christmas present than that...
